Not long ago, we had a story here on The Bachelor’s Kitchen about the new bags for SunChips from Frito Lay. The new bags are made from a highly compostable material, so they degrade faster in the landfill or your backyard compost pile.
The drawback was that these bags made a lot of noise. Lots of consumers complained about that.
So, Frito-Lay has decided to withdraw the new bags from the market. According to the Associated Press:
The company is switching back to original packaging, which is made of a type of plastic, for five of the six varieties of the chips. It will keep the biodegradable and recyclable bags for its sixth variety, its original plain flavor. That’s its second best-selling, after Harvest Cheddar.
While some consumers thanked the company for making a more environment-friendly package, Frito Lay officials say the message from most consumer came through loud and clear. The company says it hasn’t given up on the idea and will continue researching biodegradable packaging.
